The Story of Canine Cohesion
Pioneering a Holistic Approach to Canine Behavioral Health and WellnessFor thousands of years dogs and humans have had the most prolific interspecies symbiotic relationship ever known. Dogs offer human beings companionship, support and safety, perform life-saving, life-enhancing tasks, and contribute to our overall health and well-being – just to name a few things.
Sadly, for many reasons, our four-legged friends are struggling more than they ever have before. Hundreds of thousands of dogs are surrendered to shelters every year for behavioral issues. Dog bite incidents are at an all-time high. The number of dogs needing to take behavioral medication increases yearly.
Unfortunately, the dog behavior industry is highly unregulated and as a consequence, dog owners have to wade through a sea of bad and out-dated information when they seek help for their struggling pet.
These outdated practices tend to make things even worse & almost always set you and your dog up for a broken relationship. Canine Cohesion was founded to help you repair your relationship with your dog & to help you learn to thrive together.
Our training team brings an unprecedented level of expertise, all under one roof, in order to provide services based in a keen understanding of behavioral health first and foremost. Together, we’re going beyond outdated models of training based in obedience.
Our unique approach incorporates scientifically-backed behavior modification and training; enrichment and organic life-skills development; and structured socialization experiences.
At Canine Cohesion, everything we do is designed to deepen the understanding that exists between people and their dogs. Our goal is to provide all dogs with an opportunity to thrive to their true potential. Where ever you are starting today, our teams in Greenville, SC & Asheville, NC are ready to guide you on your journey of true canine companionship.
Hi, I’m Desiree.
I’m the founder of Horizon Dog Training and co-founder of Canine Cohesion Behavior & Enrichment Center.
I’m a Certified Canine Behaviorist with a specialization in building relationships.
Not only do I have masters degree level education in psychology and behavior, but I have multiple international certifications in training and behavior.
What I have spent my lifetime trying to learn — and what drives the methodology that I developed, that we now teach our clients — is not a series of exercises that can be practiced in a few minutes a day to accomplish a specific goal.
What my team offers is a different perspective: a way to understand WHY your dog is doing what he is doing, to listen to what he is saying to you…
and to use this knowledge to build a relationship.
Combined. Transformed. Ready.
Canine Cohesion’s identity is rooted in the expertise and innovation of industry leaders. We joined forces in 2023 & merged our distinct visions into one organization to serve the dogs of the Carolinas & beyond:
The Dog Door was founded by published author and applied ethologist, Kim Brophey, CDBC, CPDT-KA. The Dog Door won Best Dog Trainer of WNC six years in a row! With nearly 25 years of behavior-specific training experience, Angie now manages the Canine Cohesion team as General Director.
Horizon Dog Training started in 2007 in Greenville, SC by Desiree Beauchamp Bales, MA CCB CDBC LFDM-B CAB CPDT CPC.
